Tomorrow we have a fun, fantastic event for local author Chris Barton. There are going to be games, and because the book is all about fake identities, we encourage everyone to come in disguise. However, even if you are too honest for the event, you’ll still want a signed copy of this cool book:
Can I See Your ID?
By Chris Barton
What do a thirty year old actress, a twenty-six year old maid, and a sixteen year old boy all have in common? They all at some point in their lives successfully masqueraded as someone else. Thirty year old Kimberlee Seaman was a writer on the Felicity TV show where everyone though she was an aspiring eighteen year old actress. Twenty-six year old Mary Ann Willcocks convinced the well-to-do of Bristol, England, that she was the exotic Pricess Caraboo, and sixteen year old Keron Thomas convinced people he was a twenty-something subway worker. These and other strange but true tales are found in this book.
This book does an excellent job of bringing these stories to life in a narrative manner while still sticking to strict non-fiction conventions. (There isn’t a line of made up dialog.) And since the book is told in second person, it really brings the reader in. I would recommend this book for kids ages 9 & up, especially ones who are reluctant to read non-fiction.
So, don your sunglasses and overcoats and sneak into our party tomorrow night. The fun starts at 7, and will go on until we run out of steam. I’ll be there. In disguise.
