Walls Within Walls
By Maureen Sherry
When the Smithfork kids move into their new 5th Ave apartment, they hate the place. It’s far from their old friends, and it’s nothing like their old house. Then they discover that the old owner turned the apartment into a giant puzzle complete with a hidden treasure at the end. As they seek to solve the riddles, they end up discovering there is more at stake than just priceless treasure.
This charming mystery is a fun read. The kids are realistic in their reaction to the challenges of their new life, and the puzzles are interesting if a little fantastic. I don’t think many kids are going to start searching their own apartments expecting to find similar clues, but I bet they wish they could. I would recommend this book for ages 9 & up and for bedtime or story time reading for ages 8 & up.
