Still more wonderful books to give your favorite dudes for the holidays, this time from our awesome chapter book section! While a lot of dudes get discouraged by reading, I think we can help you find some dude books to satisfy their dudliness.
Billy Hooten Owlboy by Thomas E. Sniegoski
Billy Hooten doesn’t fit in. He’s always getting picked on and would rather build a robot than make friends with the cool kids at school. But one day he hears a cry for help coming from the cemetery behind his house. From that day forward he is Owlboy, defender of Monstros City (which lies beneath his Massachusetts suburb). But of course, there is always the question: is Billy Hooten worthy of wearing the Owlboy costume? Is he a hero or a wannabe? Young dudes will totally relate to Billy’s plight, and what’s not to love about a good old fashioned superhero story?
Ignatius MacFarland: Frequenaut by Paul Feig
Penned by one of the creators of 90′s sitcom Freaks and Geeks, this is the story of a geeky outcast who wants to be kidnapped by aliens. He’s sure the aliens will treat him better than his classmates, so, tired of waiting, he builds his own spaceship. But the ship blows up, landing him in an alternate frequency, where a presumed-dead teacher is acting as evil dictator. Together with newfound cohort Karen, and some friendly creatures, Iggy must take down the evil Arthur to bring peace to this frequency and return to his own. This is my favorite dude book right now, and dudes will love the dude humor and wacky adventures in Feig’s novel.
Redwall by Brian Jacques
This classic tale (tail?) of warrior mice from Redwall Abby has charmed dude readers for generations. Originally written for children at a school for the blind, the elaborate detail of the book – from fights to feasts! – will have your favorite dude hooked from cover to cover. Don’t be fooled by their cute little whiskers, these mice are fierce when they want to be, and when the wretched rat Cluny invades, the mice and their friends – badger and otter alike – rise to the challenge. Come in as soon as you can to snag one of our remaining signed copies!
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman’s latest has a murder on page two. But don’t let that fool you! This book is secretly sweet, despite its spooky locale. Nobody “bod” Owens has been raised by ghosts since he crawled away from the aforementioned murder of his family, barely escaping assassination. As he grows older, he encounters adventure after adventures, eventually leading him to solve the mystery of his parents death. This is a book your young dude won’t want to put down, and even older dudes will be enchanted by Neil Gaiman’s spooky tale.
I loved Tales from Jabba’s Palace. It’s so great to see I’m not the only one. It was great to see how you came up with your idea for this story.
