Get out your sparkle wings and your prettiest pastel clothes.  The Fairy Godmothers are coming to BookPeople — specifically, the godmothers in training will be raining down their magic on us to celebrate the latest addition to Jan Bozarth’s Fairy Godmother Academy.

In each of these magical books, we have gotten to learn about the intricacies required in being a fairy godmother.  It’s not all bippity, boppity, boo, you know.  Also, you don’t necessarily have to be a fairy.  It turns out that there are human fairy godmothers too.  Curious if you might be a human fairy godmother without even knowing it? Check out the Fairy Godmother Academy website to find out.

Come in your best fairy costume and help us learn about the newest fairy in Aventurine, Sumi.

Bad Kitty. Bad.

One of my favorite alphabet books in the whole world is Bad Kitty.  I love the playful words and illustrations and the multiple time through the alphabet.  I find it fun to read out loud and to just read to myself.

So, of course, I’m thrilled that Nick Bruel is coming to read some of his various Bad Kitty books at a special storytime on Tuesday, January 17 at 10:30AM.  And to make it even more fun, we will have an adult sized real live Bad Kitty (person in a costume) here for kids to hug and get their pictures with him.

See you there!

A Day of Rangers

Have you ever wanted to learn archery, tracking, and the ability to tell poison ivy from poison oak?

Are you known for your stealthy ability to appear and disappear without others noticing?

Do you like wearing cloaks no matter the season?

Then, you just might be the perfect apprentice for the Rangers.

Join us this Saturday at 4PM when we welcome John Flanagan, author of the Ranger’s Apprentice Series, as he presents his first book in his companion Brotherband Chronicles, The Outcasts.   John will be reading and signing from his book, as well as answering any and every question you may have had about the Rangers’ world.

And while you are here, register for this summer’s Ranger’s Apprentice camps.  Registration will begin at 3PM.

At 3 o’clock on Saturday, November 12, spaces will go on sale for the 2012 Ranger’s Apprentice Summer Day Camps.  These popular camps have become a staple of our literary camps.  Besides allowing your child to live in the world of the Ranger’s Apprentice Books, your campers also learn things like archery, tracking, and plant identification.

Also, after you’ve registered, stay to meet John Flanagan, author of the Ranger’s Apprentice Series.  He’ll be here to sign copies of his new series,  The Brotherband Chronicles.  For more details about the event, click here.

This year we had the best BookKids Halloween ever! Meghan read us fun, spooky stories, we colored in a whole pumpkin patch, had a fun and colorful Halloween parade all through the store (with stickers!) and….here’s the best part….everyone went home with a free book!

It was great fun to be able to put a book (the best treat of all) in everyone’s trick-or-treat bags!  Even Steve Bercu, the store’s CEO, got in on the fun. Here are some pictures from the big party. We look forward to making our Halloween Storytime & Book Give-Away an annual event. If you were there, we hope you had fun! And if you missed it, put it on your calendar for next year!
